On May 26, 2026, His Excellency General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition and Head of State, received Professor Abdoulaye Djimdé at Koulouba to recognize two major international distinctions recently awarded to the Malian scientist.
Director of the Parasites and Microbes Research and Training Center (PMRTC) at USTTB, Professor Djimdé was named recipient of the prestigious Noguchi Prize for Medical Research in Africa. He was also appointed a member of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Scientific Advisory Board, a high-level body tasked with advising the UN on major global scientific and technological issues.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the significance of these distinctions for the visibility of Malian research and the strengthening of the country’s scientific diplomacy. Professor Djimdé expressed his gratitude to the highest authorities for their continued support of research and innovation in Mali.
These international recognitions reflect the excellence of scientific research conducted in Mali and strengthen the presence of African expertise in major global decision-making bodies.
